Right to work checks

Posted on September 14th, 2021

Temporary extension reminder

The temporary COVID-19 adjusted right to work check process has been extended to 5 April 2022 (previously the end date was 20 June 2021).

The adjustments enable employers to:

  • Carry out right to work checks over video calls, rather than in person.
  • Allow job applicants and existing workers to send scanned copies or a photo of documents for checks, rather than provide originals.
  • Use the Employer Checking Service if a prospective or existing employee cannot provide any of the accepted documents.
