Right to work checks
The government has announced that the temporary COVID-19 adjusted right to work check process will now end on 20 June 2021 (previously 16 May 2021). The adjustments enable employers to:
- Carry out right to work checks over video calls, rather than in person.
- Allow job applicants and existing workers to send scanned copies or a photo of documents for checks, rather than provide originals.
- Use the Employer checking service if a prospective or existing employee cannot provide any of the accepted documents.
The guidance also states that employers will not have to carry out retrospective checks on those who had a COVID-19 adjusted check between 30 March 2020 and 20 June 2021, inclusive.
